Iran Will Face Sanctions Vote Within Days, U.S. Says.
  • Bloomberg reported that the United Nations Security Council will vote within days on whether to impose sanctions on Iran for refusing to halt its nuclear program, the U.S. government said.
Iran to Announce it is an Established Nuclear State.
  • Fars News Agency reported that Islamic Republic Spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said that Iran will be announced as an established nuclear state during the coming Ten Day Dawn ( 1-11 February) ceremonies.
Ahmadinejad’s Followers Ordered to Falsify Election Results.
  • DebkaFile claimed that Ahmadinejad's followers backed by armed Revolutionary Guards, stormed the counting sessions Monday, Dec. 18, using threats and physical harassment to force the counters to falsify the results and reverse the gains.
Iranian students Hide in Fear for Lives after Venting Fury at Ahmadinejad.
  • The Guardian reported that Iranian student activists who staged an angry protest against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week have gone into hiding in fear for their lives.
Iran to Replace Dollar with Euro in Foreign Deals.
  • Yahoo News reported that the Iranian government said it has ordered the central bank to transform the state's dollar-denominated assets held abroad into euros and use the European currency for foreign transactions.

  • Amir Taheri, New York Post reported that Saudi authorities are concerned that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been recruiting radicals to send to Mecca from all over the world and more than 20 percent may belong to the military or security services.
  • Ilan Berman, The National Review Online argued that since Ahmadinejad took office, he has made the obliteration of the State of Israel a major governmental priority. But the event, like Ahmadinejad’s Holocaust denial itself, is significant. It has a clear strategic goal: to change the terms of the political debate over Israel in the Middle East.
  • Reuters reported that the Pentagon is planning a major buildup of U.S. naval forces in and around the Gulf as a warning to Iran.
